In Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, recreational
gold panning is allowed on the east shore of the American river by the Mt.
Murphy Road bridge across from the park museum. At the parks museum/visitor
center there is a short instructional video. There are also how to pamphlets
available at the visitor center.

Bekeart’s Gun Shop (10:00am – 4:00pm), just across the
bridge from the gold panning area, features gold pan rentals. Bekeart’s also
provides hands on gold panning instructions and sell bags of pay dirt for
panning using water troughs at their store.

There are no campsites in the park, however, the nearby Coloma
and Lotus communities include a number of private campgrounds and stores.
